
May 26, 2026 — Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) organized the “Open Gov Week Thailand 2026” event during the global Open Government Week, under the theme “OPEN THAILAND: Co-Creating the Future,” conducted via Zoom and YouTube Live. The event celebrated Thailand’s formal accession to the Open Government Partnership (OGP) on January 27, 2026, a milestone achievement resulting from continuous collaborative efforts across all sectors over more than seven years since 2018. The event also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the global Open Government Partnership. Participants from nationwide agencies represented all sectors, government, private sector, civil society, and communities, totaling over 2,000 attendees.
Mrs. Areepan Charoensuk, Senior Advisor to the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), opened the event and emphasized that Thailand’s government’s next critical milestone is accelerating the development of the National Action Plan (NAP), aimed at creating space for all stakeholders to “Co-Creation” the nation’s future equitably.
The event featured the sharing of experiences and innovative ideas for advancing open government through two major program sessions as follows:
💡Session 1 — Open Success: The Power of Pro-Action, a forum decoding success from four real case studies in Thailand reflecting principles of transparency, information disclosure, and network engagement to improve citizens’ quality of life:
✅ Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Role in Climate Adaptation and Resilience presented by Ms. Yanee Kaewprasit, Head of Sustainable Environment Strategy Group, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, showcasing BMA’s climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
✅ Community-Led Low-Carbon City Development: Saraburi Case Study presented by Mr. Charoenchai Chaliewkriengkrai, Honorary Chairman of Saraburi Federation of Thai Industries, demonstrating participatory engagement in advancing the Saraburi Low Carbon City initiative toward Net Zero goals.
✅ Open Data Empowering Civil Society Oversight and Urban Development presented by Mr. Kittidej Chantangkul, Executive Director of the Thai Anti-Corruption Organization, illustrating how open data strengthens public capacity for government monitoring and urban development.
✅ Civil Society’s Role in Advancing OGP presented by Ms. Thanisara Ruangdej, CEO and Co-Founder of WeVis, highlighting civil society’s contribution to open government advancement.
💡Session 2 — Open Floor: Co-Creating the NAP, a highlight session that opened a forum for nationwide participants to share opinions via Mentimeter system, with insights to inform NAP development. Participant feedback revealed that the three most prioritized policy areas are: 1) Anti-Corruption, 2) Climate and Environment, and 3) Public Participation. Proposed projects and policies for inclusion span social, economic, environmental, and technological dimensions. Participants also suggested implementing agencies to collaborate with OPDC, including Office of National Anti-Corruption Commission, Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization), Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Local Government Organizations, Siam Cement Group (SCG), PTT Public Company Limited, CP Group, WeVis, and Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand
📌Conclusion: OPDC expressed gratitude to all participating stakeholders and pledged that all data, ideas, and public feedback from today’s event will not remain merely as statistics on screen, but will be woven together and translated into concrete guidelines in “Thailand’s First National Action Plan (NAP),” advancing the nation toward transparent governance that genuinely serves all citizens’ needs.
