The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) move forward in developing the National Action Plan (NAP) on Climate and Environment, supporting Thailand’s concrete implementation of the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
2 February 2026
Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), presided over a meeting on the development of the National Action Plan (NAP) in the policy area of Climate and Environment, in collaboration with the OPDC. The meeting was attended by Mr. Buntoon Srethasirote, Chair of the Subcommittee on Promoting Open Government and Public Participation, Mrs. Areepan Charoensuk, Senior Advisor to the OPDC, along with OPDC executives and officials, as well as DMCR executives and staff, at Lam Paen Meeting Room, 9th Floor, DMCR.
This meeting follows the Cabinet resolution on 2 December 2025, which approved Thailand’s application to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP). Subsequently, the OGP officially announced Thailand’s membership on 27 January 2026. As a result, Thailand has a key commitment to develop the National Action Plan (NAP) to drive open government principles into practice, based on core values of transparency, public participation, and accountability.
The DMCR plays a key role in advancing the Climate and Environment policy area, one of the core pillars of the NAP. The meeting therefore discussed key directions, including alignment of the NAP with the Cabinet resolution, identification of relevant projects, participatory marine and environmental management to be included in the NAP, and strengthening collaboration with the private sector, civil society, and other stakeholders. These efforts aim to ensure that the NAP is developed in line with the OGP principles, which emphasize genuine multi-stakeholder participation.
